In today’s dynamic work environment, organizations that prioritize creating a positive atmosphere not only stand out but thrive.
This section showcases my journey in designing and implementing initiatives that spark joy, foster a culture of appreciation, and strengthen the bond between employees and the company. Dive in to discover how these elements are pivotal in building an inclusive, vibrant, and positive workplace that employees are excited to be a part of every day.
Surprise & Delight
Surprise and delight is a strategy to reward employees when they’re not expecting it. This tactic has proven to trigger positive feelings, create a deeper sense of loyalty, increase referrals, and multiply productivity. I like to incorporate surprise and delights into as many parts of the employee experience as possible. Scroll through a few examples below!

National Lollipop Day - July 20th

National Watermelon Day - August 3rd

One surprise & delight that Updater employees looked forward to was birthday celebrations. Prior to an employee birthday, I would consult with peers to find out interests and hobbies and I would create a personalized “meme” to share on Slack on their special day. Gretchen is a big fan of Harry Potter and Taco Bell, so here was the finished product!
Everyone knows “on Wednesdays we wear pink” so when October 3rd fell on a Wednesday, we had to go all out for Mean Girls Day!

One of my favorite comms to date :)

AlphaSense celebration Employee Appreciation Day with a waffle breakfast - March 1st

Remote employees also received their own personalized kit to make at home! The package included waffle batter, syrup, a mini whisk, and a hand-written note from their manager.

National Donut Day - June 7th

Celebrating the year of the rat for Chinese New Year team lunch - All employees also received red envelopes with candy money inside!

My work with Packed With Purpose was showcased on their social media pages - Packed with Purpose offers personalized & custom gift boxes that positively impact local communities & causes.

Updater employees had a shared love of onesies so Onesie Day was born!

When the company book club started growing in size, I decided to take an unused area on the company’s 6th floor to create a company library. I owned this project, not only for it’s physical execution, but also for creating process on checking books in and out, donating books.
SWAG
Employees feel motivated to do their best work when they feel as though their employer truly values them. Swag is not only a way to welcome new hires, show employees your appreciation for their hard work, but also increases brand awareness outside of the organization.
